2011 SPONSORs Sports Venue Summit comes to a successful end
2 September 2011 – On 31 August and 1 September, some 500 representatives from the European sports venue industry gathered in the Allianz Arena in Munich to exchange on the industry’s key issues.
On the first conference day, Andreas Jung (Executive Board, FC Bayern Munich), Michael Kirchner (Head of Organisation & Event Management, DFB), and Michael Heselschwerdt (Head of Club Competitions, UEFA) were among those to speak on the 2012 Champions League final. Together they discussed the economic impact the final in Munich will have on both the club and the city. In the late afternoon, former General Manager of the Cowboys Stadiums, Jack Hill, then outlined what European stadium operators can learn from their US counterparts.
On the second day, the focus was on future European football championships. Marcin Herra (President of the Polish organising committee) gave an update on his country’s preparations for the EURO 2012, and Xavier Daniel (Director of Stadium Projects, EURO 2016) reported back on progress in France. A compliance meeting also took place on the Main Stage in which Joachim E. Thomas (President, Association of German Stadium Operators) Martin Gerster (Sports Policy Spokesman for the SPD), Stephan Althoff (Deutsche Telekom) and Sylvia Schenk (Executive Board, Transparency International) all participated. Finally, Martin Kind (President, Hannover 96) explained how the Niedersachsenstadion was developed into the modern AWD Arena.
Special Interest Forums and workshop
Around 500 participants attended this year’s Sports Venue Summit, which took place in Munich. As in the previous years, the conference remained true to its thematic focus, with all issues of relevance to the sports venue industry covered in the Main Stage and Special Interest Forum programmes.
In addition to its in-depth content and role as a driving force within the industry, the Sports Venue Summit also sees itself as the leading industry platform for the presentation of innovations and new trends. A workshop was consequently held on the first conference day during which the motions foreign companies must go through to win one of the lucrative contracts for the 2022 FIFA Football World Cup in Qatar were detailed.
